Putting a fence between properties?

Is there anybody have experience with land surveying? my neighbor's trying to put a fence between properties.. and he's looking for the monu or parcels .. ?? I looked at the blueprint and maps when we purchased our house, I see some circle mark with "IP", is that the corner we are looking for? do we own the same "IP" or "corner" between the properties?

IP possibly stands for Iron Pin. That's what we use around here to mark property corners. We usually use a metal detector to locate them. then cut a plug in the grass to expose the actual iron pin. And yes, the corner is common to both properties.
